Three weeks ago Wendy and I were invited by Blyde and Licor43 to enjoy 43 hours of passion in San Sebastian, a little beachside village in the North of Spain. After a little delay and a missed transfer we finally made it to the hotel, where we got a little time to freshen up for the first evening!
We met with Josune (a local blogger) and Lidia (from Licor43) from whom we received a little introduction about the city, the Film Festival that was kicking off that weekend and our planning for the weekend. Here we also received our first Licor43 serving, de Balón 43… A fresh serve of Licor43, sparkling water, ice and decorated with a lemon and a slice of orange.
After some chitchat it was time to hurry to the restaurant, since we got a little behind schedule due to the delay. At the beautiful Rekondo we enjoyed a lovely dinner with the freshest fish, meat and other ingredients. Josune told us about how San Sebastian was built, in which part of town we were and where we were going this weekend. Oh, I just couldn’t wait to see everything in daylight!
We ended dinner with our second serving, the Carajillo43. Licor43 on ice served with a hot espresso to top it off. The delicious food and this were exactly the energy we needed for our next stop; the film festival inauguration party at the San Telmo museum. Wow, this location was simply the best, such beautiful architecture! Of course, a party equals cocktails… It’s my favorite: Ginger43. This cocktail is Licor43 mixed with ginger ale, squeezed lemon and ice. YUM, you’ll love it!
After a short sleep it was time for our first day, oh we were so excited! It was supposed to be raining all weekend, but in the morning we were really lucky with the weather. We went to Playa de la Concha, the seashell of San Sebastian. Here we shot some view shots, outfit pictures and enjoyed a little beach walk.
After exploring a local brand called Loreak Mendian we got a little hungry and it was time to start our typical Spanish pintxos. We went to the beautiful old town and started our tour at pintxos/bar friends of Josune owned. Here we enjoyed a drink and our first pintxos. It was time for the real deal when we visited Portaletas, where they had so many delicious pintxos. We filled our plates with jamon ibericó, fresh fish, baked peppers and much more… Served with a red wine we enjoyed all the delicious food, BUT we still needed to keep some space left for the dessert. At Barrenetxe we enjoyed some typical Spanish sweets, which came with the brand new Licor43 flavour: Orochata!
Before we went back to the hotel to get ready for the second evening, we went to Peine del Viento “Wind Comb”. It’s a famous sculpture where art and nature really come together.
In the evening we first enjoyed a typical Spanish dinner in the Old Town and after this it was time for our red carpet moment! After we felt a little famous while walking towards the entrance, we waited for Ethan Hawke to enter. He was the real star this evening, receiving the 64th Donostia (San Sebastian) film festival award. After a short thank you speech it was time to watch his latest movie: The Magnificent Seven. I’m usually not that into Western movies, but add a few handsome men and I’m totally fine.
Sunday we woke up early to go uphill with Josune, to see the sea shell from up above. We quickly shot some beautiful view pictures before it was time to go to the airport already…
In the taxi back to Bilbao airport I was scrolling through all the pictures I had taken over the weekend and I pinched myself again that I got the chance to experience this amazing weekend with amazing moments together with an amazing team. They’re the best, thank you Blyde and Licor43!
